Anniversary Kick-Off a Great Day of Celebration
Sunday, April 21st marked the official kick-off of Messiah’s 40th Anniversary Celebration. It was a very special day for all who attended. The morning began with a 10:00 a.m. worship service. Our special guest preacher was the Rev. Amy Odgren, Assistant to our ELCA Bishop. While Amy told us that she was the “B” team preacher for the day, she delivered an “A” team sermon! She congratulated the congregation on the merger. And, she reminded us that we are all stronger working together than working apart.
The service was followed by an excellent potluck brunch. Over 100 people attended the brunch. The food was wonderful as always. Many thanks to everyone who brought something to share. Everyone enjoyed the food, fun and fellowship! Thanks also to the cleanup crew!
About 50 people stayed after the brunch to listen to Messiah Memory Stories. Rev. Don West and Rev. Jim Kasperson shared their Messiah memories. It was a very special time as they took everyone on a walk down memory lane. There were lots of smiles, lots of nodding heads, laughter and even a few happy tears. Lucille Nelson, about to celebrate her 102ndbirthday shared many funny and touching stories about Messiah and life living across the street from the church. Tom Cook also shared a wonderful story, "Faith of our Fathers."
Now we are on to our next events. Everyone is encouraged to enter the Art and Craft Contest. It is open to all ages. You can color, craft, quilt, paint, and sculpt, whatever you enjoy. All entries are welcome. The theme is, “Coming together in Christ.” Deadline for entries is July 1st.
We have a Scandinavian Cooking Class scheduled for June 22nd. Our June 23rd service will again start at 10:00 a.m. Our guest preacher will be
Messiah’s first pastor, the Rev. Ron Hanson. The service will be followed by the annual Chicken Dinner in the park.
Our last event will be on August 4th. Please save the date! Friends old and new are always welcome at Messiah!
